Science Rendezvous 2015

For the past four years, I have been involved in a national outreach effort called Science Rendezvous that happens every May.  Science Rendezvous 2015 at the University of Windsor was another fantastic event!  Computer scientists were rolling around the room using their Double telepresence robot, and engineers were demonstrating their water-powered model cars.  The neuroscientists were making brain-hats, and biologists were helping visitors to put strands of their DNA inside a necklace!  I also met a wonderful sixth grader named Gabe who had built a cloud chamber that works as a cosmic ray detector at home with help from his parents.

We had a great time at the Physics Club booth demonstrating magnetic levitation, total internal reflection, and plasmas.  We also did a stage show where we explained the Meissner effect, and had volunteers demonstrate conservation of angular momentum using the Spinning Stool of Physics!

If you missed out this year, don’t worry!  Science Rendezvous will be back across Canada in Spring 2016.  I will see you then!
