The Let’s Talk Science Challenge is an annual event put on by Let’s Talk Science Outreach Volunteers across the country. Every spring, grade 6, 7, and 8 teachers are invited to register teams of four students to compete in a full-day science competition. The morning consists of a quiz show, and in the afternoon the students compete in a design challenge!
This year at the UWindsor event, the teams all brought their A-game. The quiz show was full of energy, and the costumes were fantastic, just like their team cheers! The design challenge brought out all kinds of creative and innovative designs for a wind-powered elevator. My old boss, from Unconquered Sun Solar Technologies Inc. gave a keynote speech as the final scores were being tallied, and he brought his solar-powered golf cart to keep with the theme of green energy. Dr. MacDonald and Dr. Dutton came from the Office of the Dean to address the students as well! We had a great time working with the teachers, Lorna from National Office, and the other Let’s Talk Science volunteers. It was a great day filled with amazing people.
Unfortunately, as my time at the University of Windsor comes to an end, so does my time at the Let’s Talk Science UWindsor site. I will continue to work as a coordinator for this event next year when I am a student at York University, but I will always miss the amazing friends I made and the fun times we had here in Windsor. This is where my passion for outreach started, after all! My wonderful co-coordinator, Michelle, brought cupcakes for all of the volunteers to enjoy, and to give me a sweet send off.

I am so grateful to everyone who made my time as a Let’s Talk Science Outreach Volunteer and Coordinator at UWindsor so amazing. A very heartfelt thank you to Michelle Bondy for taking me on as her assistant this year, to the Let’s Talk Science Outreach Volunteers, and the Dean’s office in the Faculty of Science. I had so much fun doing what I love!
